Challenge

Supermarket parking availability directly impacts customer comfort, particularly as more locations open in town centers. Unauthorised vehicles occupying spaces meant exclusively for shoppers prevent customers from parking easily to load their groceries, leading to a negative experience and potential loss of business.

Solution

LIDL and Scheidt & Bachmann implemented an access control system in supermarket car parks using Survision LPR Cameras combined with barriers. The system grants users a designated free parking period, after which a fee proportional to the length of stay is applied.

Results

Parking spaces are reserved exclusively for LIDL customers, enabling them to park easily and exit rapidly without waiting or payment if they stay within the allotted free period. This delivers an improved customer experience characterized by enhanced comfort, traffic fluidity, and reduced pollution. Additionally, LIDL's focus on innovative technologies aligns with its commercial growth in the French market, where it achieved an annual market share increase of plus 0.4 percent in 2020, surpassing 6 percent of market share in France for the first time.
